I got a phone call from what I assume is my case worker late last week. That isn't what she called herself, she didn't give me a title. But she said she was handling my case so I'll assume that's what she is.
She confirmed I hadn't had care for my condition for over two years and I'd need to be evaluated. I asked where that might be and she said it was all handled by a different department who sets up the appointment for me with a private practitioner.
She said they try to get it as close to where applicants live as possible but that I'd have no choice in where they sent me. I'm concerned it might be a large city, the nearest metorpolis being Atlanta at over 2 hours away. So I inquired if I could reschedule if I couldn't get transportation as they don't supply it. Nope, probably not. This could be interesting.
She mentioned yet more paperwork coming in the mail soon that I'd need to complete and return as soon as possible.
I should have written down her name...

United Way and Red Cross also give rides to the doctor. My MIL had Medicare, and they gave her taxi vouchers (that was in Denver, big city, not sure where you live). I've considered applying for SSI for my son, but haven't yet. He is doing all right in school finally, so I don't HAVE to be home with him all day. I hear that 70% off all applications are initially denied, and three quarters of those are approved on appeal. Good luck! |
